Right Relationship

For some strange reason- the world decided to begin a new year in winter’s thickness, when natures turns in, and the north wind summons silence and long sleep.  Perhaps winter’s slow and quiet offers needed space to review and consider how best to begin again?  It takes fortitude, desire, and generosity to forgive and surrender the past, to liberate a new journey, to expand ‘right relationships.’

When young, we don’t think about these things.  We jump in, shouting “Ole!”  But older-wiser faces a New Year heavier with regrets, and lack of exuberance.  The gift of older-wiser is consciousness has expanded to at least make different mistakes, to hopefully have fewer regrets from connecting to greater compassion and understanding.  We come to see that being in ‘right relationship’ is coming into safe harbor after a storm.

Right relationship is to steward ourselves with mastery and maturity and therefore stand more confidently from deep within.  The compass we’re using guides us to share, rather than dominate, to allow long-held beliefs to morph, and float off when no longer viable.  We walk our talk more and more, or perhaps we walk in the flow, able to listen to the watery nature of our bodies, relishing what we see about Self, and other, and honoring all the relationships we enter into, as though entering into  sacred marriages.

We perceive that our relationship with Self is reflected and danced in partnership, as well as friendships, groups, and society.  We understand that the right relationship with our work is reflected in that of our relationship to abundance.  We are growing the ability to be present to un-expected relationships, able to shape-shift and allow more generously than we ever thought possible.  Our Practice in standing the mat is to grow a profound relationship to Yoga, that ‘Yoga’- meaning all of life.  As we conquer one Asana at a time, as we are more and more present in each inhale and exhale, we enter the profound and mysterious nature of Self to Self, Self to the Universe, and to one another.

Woweeee!  I’m excited!  Another great New Year to be sure.

PS  The Salon this Sunday, Jan. 8th, 4-6 PM, continues exploring themes of relationship, this time through knowing, ‘True Names.”  We discuss and question our abilities to perceive what is truly going on, VS what we want & hope to happen. We will also compare ideas of ‘right relationships’, and ‘true names from the Ayurvedic interpretation of ego.  The Sanskrit word for ego is Ahamkara, meaning the ‘I-process.’

Seasonal Energies

Asana: Choose a pose where you have to see yourself differently, or make time with a friend, where your poses mirror one another.  Do you see yourself differently in relationship?  Another way to use the mat to focus on ‘right relationship’ is to do a pose you love, which is familiar, then take it to the next level.  Make it a more difficult balance, or twist.  How does your relationship to the pose change as you make these demands?

Health Notes: Expanding our  Yoga repertoire to expand consciousness, expands our health.  As we come to see ourselves from different perspectives, and as we explore and encourage the body to grow stronger and longer, we are charged with a quiet pleasure, a winter pleasure, if you will, that keeps the fire going until spring.

Astrology Notes: In Capricorn territory, we must become our own best CEO’s, for Saturn ruled Capricorn is not satisfied until, like the Mt. Goat, which carries its energy, is at the top.  The Capricorn often achieves greatness because it is born with a sense of being less than.  Saturn is a hard task-master, and baby-Caps often push their way to the top to overcome their inferiority complexes.  If you want a job done well, put it under a Capricorn’s capable, persistent eye.

Ayurvedic Notes: In winter’s darkest, coldest days, Kapha energy is abundant…that is- we all want what is hot, cheesy, heavy, and mostly hard to digest, the very things a strongly Kapha body needs to avoid.  The great thing about Kapha energy is how compassionate and generous it can be.  Physically, Kapha bodies often have large pools for eyes/soul eyes.  The slower, more ponderous Kapha is the one you want to find to discuss your Ahamkara, your ego-I-process, knowing there will likely be a lack of judgment, and lovely ears to hold your ideas.
