“Attending Daily Breath Yoga school was a wonderful experience and was an effective way to deepen my practice while training in skills that will be useful to me in my career. It helped me to carve out a home yoga practice that now includes meditation, pranayama, studying the Yoga Sutras and Shakti goddess influences. Our class was small but experienced enabling Samantha to “go deep”, and tailor the instruction to our personal needs and interest, while strengthening our foundation of yogic knowledge. I would highly recommend Daily Breath Yoga School to anyone interested in a knowledgeable, intimate and flexible training program with an inspiring and highly skilled teacher.” Colleen Burt

What to expect of Daily Breath Yoga school

Whether you use the knowledge in the advanced training to become a professional yoga teacher or to increase personal knowledge, the journey is deeply satisfying and life-affirming. Advanced Practices create a more unique you, one who emerges as a change-agent for self, for loved ones, for the world. The skills you learn integrate with your personal practice, which becomes a source for innovation, on the mat, and off. As the body works with dynamics of flow and structure, understanding the anatomy and physiology of poses, you learn injury prevention and the art of modifying. You gain an understanding of yoga’s philosophical underpinnings and begin working the meta into the physical through meditation, pranayama, chant, and mudra. The wisdom in the subtle body becomes more available through working with these layers. Daily Breath Yoga School is available year-round, through a variety of teaching modules to suit schedules and finances. It is a space for serious students, aspiring teachers, and current teachers wishing to deepen their practice, and increase skills. It is a regenerative journey, unlocking potential, increasing wisdom, and compassion.

“Daily Breath Yoga School offers an enormous reservoir of information, process, and experience for its 200, even 300-hour teacher training. Because Samantha tailors content to the student’s level, she moves students deeper into multiple levels of learning. It’s clear she is a lifelong learner who is curious, and interested in what others have to offer, AND discover what will make us unique teachers. Samantha has her own unique perspective, but she also shares others’, believing no single style serves everybody. During our training, she encouraged us to attend a diversity of classes and workshops, then share what we learned. I found this layering of experience and knowledge to be extremely helpful in supporting my journey to become a Yoga Instructor!

Technique & Training Modules of 200 Hour Training

Expanded Healing/Wellness ~through knowledge of subtle body practices, and relating the energies of your personal Astrological chart to these practices.  Within the study of anatomy, we explore the metaphysics of: chakras, meridians, prana vayus (energy channels), the Five Elements (the building blocks of nature), and Ayurvedic Doshas (harmonizing the body to nature).

Asana Techniques & Alignment If you have had less than two years of Yoga, this is the most extensive part of your training. If you are more advanced, then theory and anatomical alignment will be primary, along with emotional, and mental intention of 75 major poses, including: standing, inversions, seated, twists, arm balances, core, back bends, stabilization poses, forward bends, hip openers, and supine poses. Breath is a major part of every pose.

Practical Yoga History This includes an overview of the Bhagavad Gitta, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, plus his spiritual philosophy, an overview of Shakti Goddesses and the gifts of their energies, plus modern yoga philosophy in your area of interest.

Teaching & Assisting. Learn skilled, compassionate hands on/hands off techniques to guide and support. hone your eyes to see the integrity of alignment and learn to recognize emotional need.

Choreography-or the Art of Sequencing The art of linking asanas, sequencing poses within anatomical families, as well as sequencing class structures is critical. As a choreographer, I teach that whatever ‘dance’ we are doing depends on how we put it together. In the end, the whole must nurture and support the intention. We also add sequencing from lunations and seasonal energies, which modify overall class structure.

Teaching Methodology. Create an effective toolbox for designing classes. learn to make informed structures through observation, analysis, journaling and feedback. Learning hands on modifications and adjustments, along with energetic touch are extremely important.

Anatomy & Physiology. Comprehend and be able to safely perform and instruct the basic kinesiology of movement, from simple to difficult poses, as well as understanding the biomechanics, and physiology of fulcrums, injury prevention, and choice of alternate poses. Learning to cue with a good sense of timing is critical to helping a student move into a pose correctly.

Subtle Anatomy & Energy Body Practicing with and learning to bring awareness into the bandhas, koshas, chakras, nadis, vayus, gunas, and doshas. This is a slow, contemplative, and rich layer adding to the physical knowledge and well being.

Meditation Practices Basic tools and techniques to support a personal meditation practice so that it is sustainable throughout your life.

Ethics, Lifestyle & Relationships Everything is a bridge leading to and supporting everything else. Yoga ethics are the same as life ethics, with an accent on your behavior as a teacher rather than being a woman or a man. Your connection and support of community, your lifestyle and what you consider to be important for life, all channel into the being a great teacher.

Yoga as Therapy. Understand basic injuries with attention to feet, knees, hips, and back working with poses through meridian lines, and marma points of energy. Cultivate the art of observation, of learning to see without judgment or cohersion in mind. Part of this is learning to appreciate the uniqueness of each student: What are their gifts? We explore how to encourage, as well as being mindful of a lack of skill.

Pranayama & Yogic Gifts. Learn how Mudra, chant, meditation, and breath/pranayama unite and weave the physical, mental and emotional bodies into a coherent whole. The rich layering of ‘Yoga-bridges, especially Pranayama soothe, cleanse and deepen the body’s response to life. Basic breath techniques such as ujayi, kapalabhati, kumbhaka, and nadi shodhana are part of Pranayama training

The Yoga Business. Practical understanding of the economics and business requirements of instructing yoga: insurance, marketing, certifications, business ethics.

Journaling. Part of the 200 hour requirement is to maintain a journal of your practice, of the classes attended, observed and taught. You learn to become your greatest teacher.  You honor listening to your body, and feelings to bring intuitive insight onto the mat.

Completion

At the completion of 100 hours there is an exam, both written and on the mat. At this time, you will have completed 60 hours of required workshop time, 25 hours of elective workshops, apprenticeship, and 16 hours of reading, journaling, papers and personal consultations.

The second phase of 100 hours is similar, but deeper, with more hands on cues, teaching opportunities, philosophical and meta discussions. Part of this is a sequencing workshop learning the art of Shakti Yoga Dances to feel into the emotional movement of asanas, connecting the dances to the flow of shakti goddess energies. You will also work 10-15 hours with another approved teacher, learning a very different approach to teaching.

Comparison & contrast are a great way to learn what you want and need to teach. There is a comprehensive final exam at closure. Upon completion, you can apply for your 200-hour Certification from Yoga Alliance.

Because the training is structured to fit the time needs of those enrolled, its length varies. We go as fast, or slow, as the students allow.

The total fee for the 200-hour training is $2,000, which can be paid in sequence as each module is completed.
